CONCEPT · WHY DOES IT THINK THAT?

It’s confident. But should I be?

Every belief is one question deep.

Ask why and a claim opens into what it rests on. Each of those is a claim too — so you can ask again, and again, until you reach something you can’t ask past: an exact line in a file, or a decision your team wrote down. Same shape every level. That’s the whole trick.

If you have ever answered a small child’s chain of “but why?”, you already know the shape: every answer earns another question. The difference here is that each answer is a card you can open in turn, and the questions run out only when you hit something solid rather than a shrug.

ask why — pick a claim, then walk it to ground

It won’t perform certainty

The two reads on each card are not the same thing. understanding is how well Preston grasps the claim from what it read; confirmed is whether a person ever said “yes, that’s right.” Picture a sharp new hire who read every file and talked to nobody: high on the first, zero on the second, and no contradiction between them.

So a low confirmation is not “ignore me.” It is “Preston holds this, and no one has confirmed it — so Preston asked instead of asserting.”

why is this walk, callable — hand your agent a stable about handle, get back the same tree, one level at a time.
